Interactive Qualifying Project
in Morocco

IQP is something special of the WPI Plan and WPI’S signature project-based curriculum, giving every WPI student the experience of working in interdisciplinary teams to solve a problem or need that lies at the intersection of science and society.

They get the chance to go abroad to do the project and gain some experience of what it is like in other places.

We get the chance to experience and learn about different cultures, expanding our knowledge of how different cultures interact.

My IQP Story

I had a chance to do my IQP abroad and my destination was Rabat Morocco. Unfortunately due to covid, we could not go and had to do the entire project remotely. But that did not stop us from getting the experience of being in Morocco. Our advisors connected us to students who are currently in Morocco, where we would meet twice a week and learn about the culture there in Morocco.  Those students were known as our cultural partners who gave us amazing insights of the lifestyle in Morocco and learning about those amazing stories inspired us some solutions for our project.

The project I have done for Morocco was to help an organization there called DigiGirlz Mentorship Program to expand their program across different countries in North Africa.

Project: Recommendations to Improve and Expand the DigiGirlz Morocco Mentorship Program Public

The project I have done for Morocco was to help an organization there called DigiGirlz Mentorship Program to expand their program across different countries in North Africa.

Brief background of the project and program:

DigiGirlz Morocco was established in 2017 in response to the lack of opportunities and support for young girls interested in STEM and IT in Morocco. DigiGirlz is linked with Association Anoual, a Moroccan NGO whose mission is to “Empower the future leaders for effective initiative and positive impact in their communities” (Association Anoual Home, 2020). Their mentorship program empowers university and high school-aged female students to pursue IT endeavors and teaches valuable skills such as leadership and self-advocacy. Our team assisted DigiGirlz in developing strategies for future expansion. We recommended methods to improve their current program and proposed a list of potential partner organizations including strategies to expand the program internationally.
